Green Rhino Snail

Jambusan is really a hidden heaven for finding the rare gems for macro photography. This was the first time I saw a green rhino snail.

Jambusan: The Wonderland of Flora and Fauna

Jambusan is a small village at about 40 kilometres away from Kuching. It was just about 45-minute drive away for us, and the reward was in fact more than that for my photography trip with the PhotoBorneo buddies.

Welcoming us was the skull-shape limestone caves just about 30 metres away from the road side.

Not far from the caves is a narrow limestone valley with light bushes filled with astonishing lives.

When we started to walk towards the skull-shape caves, I already spotted something which is of 'R rated' in the world of insects!

As we went deeper, we saw a net set up by the villagers to trap the bats. There were three of them trapped with only one which was still alive. They would probably end up on the dining table of the villagers.

There were actually many subjects to shoot around here, but I spent too much time on each of the subject and I ended up with shots of just slightly over 10 subjects. There were many types of flowers but I shot only 2~3 species.

As for insects, there were plenty of them. It was no sweat for us to spot some interesting ones. However, this assassin bug flew around and it took us quite some time to wait for it to calm down.

I saw a spider with giant eyes too which I have never seen before. It was always looking for a shade and it took me to flip the leaf several times before it stood stationary and posed for me.

Another interesting creature I spotted was this extremely hairy caterpillar.

Jambusan is really a haven for macro photography of flora and fauna. I will definitely go back for more and have to remember not to spend too much time on each subject!
