The exterior of St. Vitus Cathedral has already so many sights to offer, and you haven't seen the interior yet! Walking around the exterior is free, but it is worth to pay for the ticket to go inside.
The nave of the cathedral catches the light from the multi-colour stained-glass windows, making it a feast of colours and lighting.
During my visit to Czech Republic seven years ago, I overheard the tour guide claiming that the stained glass depicting the lives of St. Cyril and St. Methodius is the most beautiful. This piece of art by the art nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha is beautiful indeed, and it didn't fail to amaze me even on my second visit after seven years.
Not far away from this stained glass window is a sculpture of crucifixion carved out of wood.
There are plenty of other wooden and marble sculptures adorning various corners of the cathedral.
The rose window at the western facade is really stunning from the exterior view. The view from inside is equally stunning, if not more.
There are just too many things to see inside the cathedral. You will find something interesting after every few steps.
Near the eastern end of the cathedral is a bronze sculpture of a bishop in a praying posture.
At the eastern end lies the tomb of St. John of Nepomuk crafted out of silver. It is said that the total weight of silver used is a hefty 2 tonnes!
