A Fulfilling Chap Goh Mei

Today is Chap Goh Mei, the 15th day of the Chinese New Year. It coincides with the public holiday nationwide. Therefore, I went for street outing with a few photography buddies around the city centre again.

After having kolo mee for breakfast at the Open Air Market, we started our street-photo-hunting activity.

It started to rain when we reached a park in front of the former State Mosque, so we took shelter under the pedestrian overpass and continued shooting while giving way to the passing vehicles.

The rain got heavier minute after minute and we decided to turn back to look for better shelter. So, we got back to where we started shooting.

The rain had hindered us from outdoor shooting, so, we decided to drive to a nearby temple to continue on our shooting mission.

We started the day early, so we got hungry at the early hour of 10:30 a.m. for lunch. We spotted something new on Ewe Hai Street and decided to give it a try, that is, kueh tiaw soup with abolone!

After the meal and some chit-chatting, we adjourned for home getting ready for the Chap Goh Mei dinner. It is a Chinese tradition to have a reunion dinner again on Chap Goh Mei after having one on the Chinese New Year Eve. This dinner also calls the Chinese New Year celebration to an end.

For the dinner, we had yu sang from Hilton Kuching courtesy of my eldest brother. My mother cooked the brine-soaked whole duck, deep-fried battered prawns, sea cucumber and fish swim-bladder stew, steamed fish and some pickled olives. It was really a fulfilling meal!
