Mozart's Birthplace

Mozart's Birthplace (Mozarts Geburtshaus) is a block along the old street of Salzburg (Getreidegasse) where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on the 27th January 1756. It is now a museum showing the life and history of the Mozart family.

The museum tour usually starts from the 3rd floor where the violin that W.A. Mozart used during his childhood time is displayed. Unfortunately photography is not allowed in the exhibition area, but only in the kitchen area.

The 2nd floor is dedicated mostly to the artifacts of his opera works. Models of stage and costumes for opera performance are on display here.

The exhibits on the 1st floor are about Mozart's life at and away from home. We can imagine how travelling in the 18th century was like from the items displayed. There is also a special room where visitors can sit down, relax and listen the the excerpts of Mozart's music.

If you are in Salzburg, do not miss this place as Mozart is the person who makes Salzburg prominent. Even modern mothers nowadays still believe that listening to Mozart's music is a part of prenatal education!
