CK Goes to Italy – Rome (Roma)

During the months of May and June in 2006, I spent 30 days in one of the most beautiful countries in Europe, Italy. At about 12:00 a.m. on 12/5/2006, I stepped my feet on board of Malaysia Airlines flight no. MH14 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport bound for the Fiumicino/Leornado da Vinci International Airport in Rome.

The first post features the places I have visited in Rome, the first destination of my 30-day journey in Italy.

Ponte Sant'Angelo leading to Castel Sant'Angelo. It was once connected to Vatican City with an escape tunnel use by popes in time of threat. If you have read the book 'Angels and Demons' by Dan Brown, you should have remembered this place where all the kidnapped cardinals were imprisoned.

Fontana del Tritone (Fountain of the Triton) desined by Gianlorenzo Bernini (1598-1680), one of the very famous Baroque sculptor in Italy.

The most famous fountain in Rome, Fontana di Trevi (Trevi Fountain). Throwing a coin into the fountain, over your shoulder while facing away, will grant you the wish of returning to Rome. Throwing the second coin will make you fall in love with an Italian.

Well, I think most of you can tell where this is, the eminent Colosseo (Colosseum).

A temple turned into a church at the Foro Romano (Roman Forum).

A tunnel at Palatino (Palatine), the mythical founding place of Rome.

A Triton statue at the Fontana di Trevi (Trevi Fountain).

A street artist selling his portrait paintings near Castel Sant'Angelo.

Rush hour at the Metro station. I rely on the Metro lines a lot to go around Rome.

The spread of gelato made me mouth-watering everyday, so I had at least a cone a day. :-p

I smelled bread and turned into this bakery.
