Waikiki Beach was a place for the royal family to have their retreat in the 1800s. They used to surf on longboards which evolved to the surfboards as we see them today. The beach was facing heavy erosion back in 2011 and it was restored with sand shoaled from nearby beaches in 2012.
The beach was restored to its 1985 glory and it is now full of visitors again having their great time doing water sports or just a tranquil time on the beach. It was really a nice beach to spend time during my visit in 2013 which was just one year after a full restoration.
After a nap at the hotel, I went back to the beach during sunset time to capture these photos. The sunset was quite nice on that day, although it wasn't the best that I have seen.
