An Assignment to the Forest Park

I was given an assignment of a cover photo for the programme book of the upcoming 5th Engineering Conference (EnCon 2012) as most of my colleagues know that I have a considerable number of photos after 'collecting' images for the past several years. After I have searched through my collection did I realise that I haven't got any image that suits the conference theme of "Engineering Towards Change - Empowering Green Solutions".

Therefore, I went on a mission to the Samajaya Forest Park because this place has a lot of green. I forked out fifty Sen to pay the ranger at the entrance but he told me that the entrance fee had increase to on Ringgit. I sceptically asked when was the increase and he pointed me to the notice pasted on wall and told me it was with effect from 1st May 2012. So, I forked out another fifty Sen for him.

It was really not hard to find green subjects in the forest but it was hard to make them to suit the theme of the conference.

I walked and searched for the curve.

I bent down to look for the light and shadow.

I looked up for the shape and pattern.

After I had done with the assignment, I started to look for the subject of my own interest. Coincidentally, this mantis looking cricket I found is also green.

Pocky Chocolate Dessert

Pocky is a very well-known brand name for Japanese snacks, particularly dessert on sticks. Therefore, I had the chance to try out several types of Pocky snacks when I was in Japan.

I should say that chocolate with orange flavour is one of my favourite chocolate. I just can't resist myself when I see chocolate packaging with an orange illustrated on it.

Although I couldn't understand much of what was written at the back of the box, Pocky is the word for quality food to me.

There were four packets in the box, with three sticks in each packet. After I opened one packet and started tasting, these orange flavoured chocolate coated biscuits sticks tasted so divine!

After I had finished the three sticks in the first packet, I couldn't resist to open the second packet. Then the third and the fourth. Without me knowing it, I finished up all twelve sticks in one go!

I really miss the Japanese snacks.

Walking Along Gambir Street

I received a message yesterday from a friend again asking me to suggest a place to shoot photos for her photography class assignment. I suggested her to walk along Gambir Street, one of the oldest streets in Kuching.

She needed to complete her assignment with horizontal lines, diagonal lines, curves, light and shadows, triangular composition, frame within frame, colour contrast, movement, etc. So, I also practised some of these during my "photography expedition" along Gambir Street. See if you can spot all those in these photos to see if I have passed.
