Santorini – Almost Heaven: Roaming Around the Streets of Fira

Santorini or Thira as the locals call it, is probably one of the most visited islands in between the Aegean Sea and the Sea of Crete. The Santorini as I saw it in July 2007 is the result of the rebuilding from the catastrophe of 1956, which was an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale. The chain of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions that happened in 1650 BC was somewhat the largest natural explosion in the history of mankind.

Despite the threat of volcanic activities, and yes, the volcano is still active, tourists swarm to this island for summer vacation. However, this is not a suicidal act as only tremors were felt for the past years.

Fira is the capitol of Santorini and it was where I put up at San Giorgio Villas. It is the largest town around the island and most travelers put up here as the station to explore the island.

This street is the women's favourite.

This has got to be my favourite, food!

The narrow street on the caldera can get misty in the morning.

Peeping through the arch.

The streets are clean and cosy to roam around.

It was a lot of fun wandering through the swirling and sloping streets.

This is the main street of Fira, and the largest of all streets on Santorini.

Will you walk into this shop if it is in Malaysia?

See any brands?

I spotted a model.

Please follow the sign if you are one.

Oops! Have you become one?

Poseidon is king and Athena is queen?! You gotta be kidding me!

These are very unique flower pots indeed.

Nobody knows when the the next volcanic eruption is going to happen, so, if you want to see her beauty, you better be there soon.
